Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 1: In what ways does your media  product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Performance:

The performance of the main star (me) in the music video is shown in the music video as an usual character that you wouldn't see every day. Because the main star wears make-up and has a "different" dress sense to other people, you can tell that he's an individual because he's singing alone. These type of characteristics are well known for the single lone artists and within the music video, he shows his emotions that relates to this girl which could portray his own real life (from the artists perspective). As shown in the music video, he comes across as a gothic/emo themed person with a lot of sexual emotion for this girl in the video as he shows he's comfortable around her. As a group, we compared  myself to the artist IAMX and look at his different emotions and gestures that he makes through his other music videos and found that if I did a performance based around the "weird" things he does, it would suit the  song well.

The second character shown in the music video is the girl which the main artist is singing about. We can tell in the music video that she's not the main artist because of course of the performance and the singing but as well as the amount of camera attention that is placed on her compared to the main artist. The camera through out the music video shows the audience the main artist and if they're both together in a shot, the girl is always on the side of the camera shot, not in the center. This was purposely done to show the audience who the real center of attention is.

I myself during the filming didn't feel too comfortable with the camera in my face but after a few practice tries I thought that I built a lot of confidence and my lip syncing during the music video went well.

Comparing our music video to similar videos of the same genre:

Comparing my music video to other music videos with the same music genre, I think that me and my group have made a unique different type of music video with the genre but have kept some of the original features of the same genre music videos. Normally, with electro house, there's normally a lot of flashing lighting which we had included in our music video to the beat of the song. This was done when the beat was jumping a lot which made the effect on the music video look more interesting. Compared to the original music video of this song, our is completely different. The original music video for this song has two people sitting at a table with a flashing background. On the table and chairs, it's like people are meeting up and just talking to each other like you'd do in a bar, sit down and chat to one another and talk to each other about their live and what they do. Comparing our music video to that, ours is completely different. We've made the video with a different color scheme (getting the inspiration from a Madonna music video) and had a story like music video between a relationship of the artist and the girl.

Relationship between the lyrics and the music video:

During the music video, there was some relationships between the lyrics and the music video. Because the song lyrics were quite repetitive, I thought it would be a good idea to make a relationship between the music video and the song. For example, the main lyrics "Pretty little angel" - we've included a girl in the music video to act towards the guy in a sexual way. When you listen to the song, you get these sense of sexual motion. When there's the lyrics "Show me the reaction" - we've included in the music video a shot of taking a drug, like the reaction of the drug between the person. When lip syncing the video, it was quite easy because the pace of the song kept to the same pace and it wasn't that jumpy with speeds up and speeding down. That helped a lot as I was a rookie to lip syncing and acting in front of the camera.

Mis En Scene of The Music Video:

The Mis En Scene of the music video has a gothic type of clothing. In the music video, the artist is wearing a black and white butlers top with black jeans and at the same time, he's got long hair and the fringe going over his face. This can be seen as an "emo" or "gothic" look which we've try to show in the music video. Another thing to make the mis en scene of the music video more gothic is the make-up that was included on both of the characters. As shown in the music video, the main artist is wearing eye liner, make-up, eye shadow and even foundation. We've also try to show the gothic theme in the music video with the extract effect used when editing the music video. Because the extract effect made the music video a black and white colour, this made it suit our "gothic" theme more. Another thing that our group set out to do was show a sexual look in the music video. I thought that this was done well with the clothing that the girl of the music video was dressed in. Because she was dressed in black heels and laced dress which was bought at Ann Summers, I thought this made the video look more sexual. Another thing that was done to make it more sexual to make the main artist topless in some of the shots.

Camera Shots and Editing:

During the music video, there was many close-ups to show the importance of things through out the music video. During the music video, there's a lot of close ups of the main artist. This was done to show his importance in the music video. There was also close ups of the girl of her face which can link to the importance of this girl to the artist. Another reason why close-ups were used during the music video was to make sure the audience know what type of personality the artist and this girl has. Because there was a close-up of drugs and close-up of the girl touching the artist. When coming to the camera movement of the music video, I made the camera movement slow on the slow parts of the song and the camera movement fast when the song temp was faster. When it came to editing the music video, I made the shots cut on the beat, I did this because it made the pace of the song move more slowly and compared to other electro music videos, a lot of the music videos cut of the beat or flash to the beat. During our music video, I made the video flash to the beat.

Structure of The Narrative:

The structure of the music video was planned to show performance and story. Because of the amount of locations that my group was limited to and the amount of people that was in our group, it made it very difficult to make it story and performance at the same time. We wanted to show both of the characters at the same time to make sure the audience get a good idea of what the characters look like. Through out the performance, there's little things that relate to the title of the song "Pretty Little Angel" and there's also actions and motions that relate to the lyrics of the song.
